have you found your indies?

The New World is an incredible film. So good that i'm still wallowing in all the small bits of it. Who knew i'd get giddy over seeing the corn/bean/squash fields somewhere other than in lengthy historical/enthographic monographs! and guh! between that movie and being in the middle of 1491 at the moment i am all about precolumbian american history right now, SO GOOD!

G'town beat duke! f' yes! and the other 2 unbeatens fell as well! H U G E day in ncaa basketball! so good! Houston won too! GO COUGS!

i keep watching the australian open and thinking about Ange, since shes there at the moment. yet i cant bring myself to email her, i cant really bring myself to email anyone. and the few ppl i have emailed lately about various things (jobs, djing, graduating) have either not responded or took a week or two to respond.

i kept seeing this song's video on Azteca and i finally stuck around to find out the artist. and its been on repeat for a good 15 minutes now. so nice.

Thought you might think this was interetsing (an email from my aunt, my dad's sister):

This movie was shot at my Dad's "Home Place" outside of Toano, Virginia, which is a small community east of Williamsburg. He was 9 years younger than his next sibling, of 6 (7 children in all). He was born in 1920. The property is still owned by my cousins (or at least it was last year when the film was made). It has been in the family for over 110 years. My grandfather and 2 of my uncles were commercial fishermen and had a fish plant there. That was torn down for the movie (no one is living on the property anymore since my aunt and uncles died a while ago). My Dad requested his ashes be scattered on the river - the Chickahomny. We honored his request in 1990 and his urn was buried in a nice a spot under a tree. (It took a year to be able to arrange for all of us to be in Virginia at one time). One of the shots shows exactly where we did the scattering. I wonder if they came across the urn when they were building the set. One of my cousin's son was an extra in the movie, but I don't know if he made it into the actual movie.

I can't wait to see the movie and I am hoping I can get all my kids to go see it with me. Just thought I would share a bit of my ancestry with all of you. To me this is really, really cool!

Anywho. I thought that was cool. DEFINITELY seeing that one . . . I was at that ceremony and vaguely remember it (I was 4 at the time).

Yeah that movie was really amazing. Are you familiar with Malick's other movies? He's my favorite. The Thin Red Line you must if you liked The New World.
